Stand Up and Move! How to Sizzle not Fizzle

Man Running

As millions of Americans ponder quitting newly launched fitness resolutions after finding it tough to squeeze in toning workouts or sweat off a few extra pounds, researchers implore: Don’t give up. Just pump out 20 minutes a day of any kind of exercise—take a brisk walk, jog, lift weights—and stop sitting so much. Results can bring a healthier, more youthful feeling of well-being, akin to what explorer Juan Ponce de León sought in the Americas long ago.

A Holistic Approach to Transformative Weight Loss

NB_Image_Dr Wolf Funpack 2_images

Turn on the TV, open up a magazine, surf the Internet, or listen to the radio and it is impossible to avoid reading, seeing, or hearing about a new “miracle” diet that promises quick weight loss. With approximately 72.5 million obese American adults, and the Center for Disease Control reporting that at any given time two-thirds of all Americans are on a diet to lose weight or prevent weight gain, the weight loss industry is growing in leaps and bounds. At present it enjoys revenues estimated at $34 billion annually.

Alarmed by similar statistics in his homeland of Germany, Wolf Funfack, M.D., founder of Metabolic Balance®, decided to apply his 16 years of research into countless ineffective diet programs, to creating an innovative approach to weight loss that just made sense. One that relies on years of scientific evidence, the wisdom of the body and that of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, who believed that food should be medicine and medicine should be food.

Additionally, the treatment has proven effective for clients of all ages. Dr. Jim Costello, founder and developer of Neuro-fit Systems explains the key lies in the science of neuroplasticity. Neuroscientists, long believing the brain to be static and immutable after early childhood, now understand the brain can adapt and change both functionally and structurally. “Just as you can build muscles in the gym, neural connections can be fortified through movement to increase the capacity for adaptation within one’s environment,” Costello discloses.

HW_0113_ DietarySupplements

According to the U.S. Office of Dietary Supplements, nearly half of us regularly use some kind of dietary supplement, including vitamins, minerals and botanical herbs.

While mainstream media have recently targeted supplements with alarming coverage about their value and safety, James J. Gormley, former editor of Better Nutrition and author of User’s Guide to Brain-Boosting Supplements, helps set the record straight. In an open letter on the Citizens for Health website, at, he contends the worst part about misleading articles is that they can scare readers away from benefits that safe supplements might offer. Lee Trains Owners and Their Dogs

Redondo Beach dog trainer and behaviorist Brian Lee believes in positive reinforcement; however his methods go beyond basic obedience training to focus on behavior modification. And this applies to dog and owner alike. “I believe in educating the dog’s owner on how to raise and develop the most mentally healthy, happy, relaxed, grounded and stable dog possible”, says Lee.

The crux of Lee’s method, honed through 25 years of experience and having worked with over 10,000 dogs and their owners, is his five step program. According to Lee, the first step is basic needs. Two of the basic needs account for 50% of all problems.
